Q: Range Rover?
I am a new driver and was wondering if an older range rover ( late 80’s early to mid 90’s) would be good for a teen driver. I saw that they were cheap and they were safe. But If i didnt buy this I would either buy a honda civic coupe or a vw golf or jetta. But was wondering out of those which one was the best!

A: IF YOU DON’T MIND THE GAS GUZZLING, FILLING UP EVERY 200 MILES AND SOMETHING BREAKING EVERY OTHER WEEK, THEN GO FOR IT.

PERSONALLY, I’D RATHER GET A LATE 80S ACCORD OR CIVIC. I’VE DRIVEN THEM WITH OVER 200K MILES AND THEY ARE JUST SOLID, ALMOST DRIVES AS IF THEY WERE BRAND NEW.

Q: Range rover?
Just turned 17, and have gone and brought my first car, its a brand new Range Rover Vouge Supercharge, i’ve fully paid for the car, but was wondering if i should give it to Overfinch and let them “spruce” it up a bit, i paid £83,000 for the car and overfinch want another £60000 to, do there stuff, whats your opinion
My parents paid for the car, but they said they will only pay half of the overfinch bill if i chose to have it done

A: no

save your money for the repairs when it breaks down

not kidding or being a jerk.

LR are very unreliable and expensive to fix

maybe you’ll get lucky and yours will be a cherry

but history repeats itself

Q: range rover???????????????????????????
how does a regular range rover cost?

A: The LandRover Range Rover costs around $78,000.

According to J.D. Power & Associates, they are the most unreliable luxury cars available.

They also require premium gas, have very bad gas mileage, and are very expensive to maintain and fix.

Q: what is the different between a Range rover and a Range rover Vogue?
what is the different between a Range rover and a Range rover Vogue? is it the engine power?

A: The vogue has a much higher trim and interior spec and poss a larger engine.

Q: What kind of car should buy a range rover or range rover sport?
so im getting my dream car when i turn 16 and i dont know if i should get a range rover which is my dream car or a range rover sport im very girl person and love to shop but i cant decide which one to get help please!!!!!!!!!
1.my dad has all the money to buy anything i want (to the second girl that answered my question)

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: What is the proper way to claim a Range Rover on taxes for depreciation & do they pay for themselves?
I bought a Range Rover brand new. Do I report the full purchase price and depreciate a certain amount yearly?
Also I heard that by doing so the Range Rover pays for itself…Does that mean that I get a refund from irs for the depreciation each year?

A: Did you buy it for a business you own, for business driving you do, or is it for your personal use? If for personal use, you don’t do anything on your taxes with it. If it’s for driving for business, yes you can claim either a flat rate for mileage of 58.5 cents per business mile, which would include depreciation, or claim actual expenses prorated for the amount of your driving that is business miles,

In any case, no they don’t pay for themselves. Sounds like something a dishonest salesman would tell you. Even if it’s used only for business, the depreciation means that much of your income isn’t taxed, so your tax savings is the depreciation times your tax bracket. You don’t say just what model you bought, or what your income is. But if you paid say $90,000 for it, and are in a 25% bracket, tax savings over the years could be as much as $22,500 from the depreciation – the other $67,500 would still come out of your pocket.

Q: Is it possible to import a Diesel Range Rover from Europe to Canada?
Is it possible to import a Diesel Range Rover from Europe to Canada? I googled it for a bit but couldnt find anything.
I know the shipping would be a little bit, but what else would cost so much.

And the reason why is because we cant get Diesel Rovers over here, just the gas thirsty ones.

A: Not a new one – they don’t meet our emissions standards. SORRY; they are nice vehicles too.

Q: Can you buy a Range Rover in London and have it shipped to the United States?
Since a Range Rover is one of the vehicles that is street legal in the United States, can you buy a Range Rover in London and then have it shipped to the United States?
Okay, so let me make sure I understand this right. As long as the model is street legal in the USA, we can have it shipped here, right?

A: Why bother? There are Land Rover dealerships all over the place in the USA. Just buy one there.

Remember you will be paying a MUCH higher price premium in the UK because the value of the U.S. dollar is currently declining, which makes cars sold in the U.S. less expensive.

I can get a better deal on a Range Rover from my local Land Rover dealer in Glen Cove NY (Starts at $78,450 USD) than you can in London (starts at 56,000 GBP). That’s a difference of almost $20,000 USD / 10,000 GBP, for the same car.

Q: How do I sell my Range Rover without paying to sell it?
It’s a 1997 Range Rover HSE with all the upgrades of the 2000. She’s a beauty black with leather (of course). It is in great condition (now that the overheating is solved). New timing belt, new fan, new water pump, new thermostat, practically everything that has needed to be replaced has been.
I love the car, but the gas is outrageous. I don’t want to have to pay someone else to advertise it for me. Is there a way to sell it without paying? Or if anyone is interested, let me know.

A: http://www.craigslist.com

Q: How to save up money to buy a 2000 land rover or range rover?
Okay so this is going to sound really crazy(and stupid).
-i’m only 14, (going on 15in a week)
and i want to save up for a 2000 range/land rover for when i’m 16.
Is there any possible way,
without working full time, wasting away the summer?

A: Good choice in a first vehicle. Don’t let ANYONE tell you different. If they try to, they do not know what they are talking about. A Range Rover, if owned in the company of other Rover enthusiasts, will set you on a wonderful path in life full of great people and great fun and adventure.

Fortunately, you don’t need to save up much to get what you want. Resale values on those are pretty low, and that works great for purchasing.

That particular model is called the P38. They have an undeserved bad reputation. Land Rover bit off more than they could chew with the air suspension, and it tends to fail eventually. Simple to fix, though.

One set of coil springs, and you never have another problem. Great excuse for a lift… Just buy one, and don’t worry. If it ever gives you trouble, grab a set of coils. They are widely available.

As for how to save, break off a piece of whatever money you get your hands on and put it away. Whatever you can afford to go without, break it off and put it away. While you are at it, offer to do as many small jobs for people as you can, you get more per hour doing that than anything. Mowing lawns adds up like crazy at your age, and you only need a cheap used mower.

You aren’t crazy at all, you know what you want, and you are trying to come up with a way to get it. Keep this attitude in life, and nothing will be beyond your grasp. Check out online Rover clubs for more advice and help. Discoweb is a great place to meet great people if you are willing to learn.

You may have to work part time somewhere to help generate the money along with the small jobs and other things, but it will be well worth it. Trust me. That Range Rover will shortly become the most wonderful thing you could ever own. And owning one feels just as good as imagining it. Every day I get into a Rover, I smile as wide as I did when I first saw one.

You want to try and come up with several thousand dollars. 5 will get you into a decent one, 6 will start you off with lower miles. Ebay isn’t the place to shop, enthusiast forums is where you need to look. Better Rovers with good owners and pretty public histories are sold cheaper there. Like I said, check out discoweb.

You are on the right track, man. You can have your Range Rover. Go ahead and consider it yours, and do what it takes to get it. You have the time to pull it off, and so far as I can tell, you have the attitude to do it as well.

If you have any Rover specific questions, I’d be glad to answer them, just contact me here. As far as I can tell, I’m the only Rover guy that hangs around answering these questions anymore.

Q: How is the maintanence on the Range Rover Sport?
I’m purchasing a 2006 Range Rover Sport with about 30 thousand miles. I am curious what the maintenance will be like beyond the 50 thousand mile 4 year warantee.

A: there are starting to be more and more early model range rover sports exiting the new car warranty, but it’s really hard to get a definitive answer.. you’re definitely gonna go through brakes like crazy. it’s a consequence of driving a vehicle that’s almost 3 tons. i’m around 58k and nothing so far. the RRS hasn’t been any different, maintenance-wise, than my wife’s 2000 BMW (E39). everything else has been covered under warranty. just make sure you read up on the TSBs and get anything done

Q: i have a range rover sport supercharged and every time i start it from cold it starts hunting ?
can anybody tell me why my range rover supercharged starts hunting when starting from cold please.

A: quite simply you have an air vacuum leak on the inlet side…look for any small bore pipes that have come adrift or check for cracks in the piping.

Q: How do you fit 3 car seats in the 2nd row of the Range Rover?
I have 2 britax roundabouts currently, and my graco snugride doesn’t fit in the middle of them. My 3rd is due in December, and my kids are currently ages 3 and 21 mo., and neither of them will be in a booster anytime soon. Please help. I LOVE my Range Rover and am very opposed to the minivan concept (please don’t recommend one for me). Thank you!

A: You ought to be able to keep your car and get 3 across, but it may mean purhcasing more seats, and skipping the infant seat for the newborn, using a rear facing convertible instead. (Yes its safe – the infant carrier is not a required stage in car seats) The Sunshine Kids Radian65 is the narrowest car seat you can buy, and fits kids 5lbs to 65lbs. It would be best installed in the middle, if it will work, b/c it does have a rather tall seat shell and limits the space of the passenger in front of it. In the middle it will stick between the 2 front seats and won’t limit how far back they can be. The Range Rover has a pretty wide back seat, so you really shoudln’t have much trouble. When shopping and trying to configure seats, its important to remember a few things:
1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you’re more likely to use it correctly.
2)children need to stay rear facing as long as possible.
Turning kids forward at 20lbs/1year is an outdated practice that could cost you your child’s life!
A)A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 5 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age.
B)A child’s vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone.
C)Current research suggests that children under the age of two years are 75 percent less likely to die or be seriously injured when they are riding rear facing.
D)In a recent article from Injury Prevention, it was found that the odds of severe injury to forward facing children age 12-23 months old was 5.32 times higher than a rear facing child. (Car Safety Seats For Children: Rear Facing For Best Protection; Injury Prevention 2007; 13:398-402.)
3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can’t sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is in the 95th% for height and weight – 40″ tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I’d have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one.

Something to consider is that you may want another car here at some point, b/c its pretty hard to have a 3 across using booster seats. Depending upon the size of your kids, the 3 year old may be able to fit in a Radian65 for another 2-3 years before you have that issue. Even if you get one Radian, for the 3 year old, it might give enough room to make them all fit. Or you could get 2 or even 3. The Radian can be difficult to install with the seatbelt – so a best bet is to buy from walmart.com so you can take it back if it doesn’t work in you vehicle. Its your best bet for 3 across though – and is easy to install with LATCH (but you can only use LATCH to 48lbs).

So for until they’re boosters it ought to be doable. Then I would try and get something else. Its just too hard to have to dig between child seats to get the buckle every time they get in and out of a booster.
And you don’t necessarily have to have a Radian65 – the trick to getting 3 across is puzzling the seats – putting different brands of seats facing different directions next to each other. You’ll see that in the link posted below.

Q: How stupid do you think it is that Tata is purchasing Jaguar and Land/Range Rover?
The $100 billion company (Tata) is only buying Jaguar and Land/Range Rover for a collective price of $3.2 billion from Ford. I remember when BMW owned Land/Range Rover, and Jaguar was a spectacular company all its own.
Please do not use historical grudges/treaties and wrong doings between two countries. The country the car is made in has nothing to do with the car itself.

A: Tata is not so specialized in manufacturing high end cars but JLR has the specialized team so tata only needs to monitor everything and fill their pockets

Q: How much will a 2006 Land Rover Range Rover HSE Monthly Payment Be?
And How much would a good down payment be on a 06 Range Rover HSE?
And How much would a good down payment be on a 06 Range Rover HSE?IN CALIFORNIA
Please.

A: Not enough information.

How much are you paying for it?
What is your interest rate and the term of the loan?

These are both things you should know before stepping foot into a dealership unless you plan on being ripped off.

For more information about Kia Optima visit your top automotive resource ThisWeekInMotors.com

Q: How much would it cost to change the calibrator converter on a kia optima 2002?
My friends mom has a 2002 kia optima siting in her drive was because it can only go 25mph. I asked whats wrong with it and she said it was the calibrator converter.

I just got my licence and i am looking for a car
Does any one know how much it would cost to repair this?

A: What is a calibrator converter? I know of a catalytic converter, but that wouldn’t make a car go only 25mph…

There has got to be something bigger wrong with it. Ask her if you can take it to a mechanic and have them take a look and give you a quote.

Q: Kia optima reving up to almost 2,000 rpm at an idle?
My friend has an 2006 kia optima and as soon as you start it, it automatically goes to almost 2,000 rpms.. Any idea what is causing this?
Already has replaced the
Throttling positioning sensor
Mass Air sensor
Spark plugs & Wires

There is not a check engine light and Auto zone ran dianositic on it and there was no codes that came up.

44,000 miles.

A: Does it stay there, or does it idle down after a second or two?

A constant high engine idle is a classic issue caused most commonly by a vacuum leak.

A frequently used method by professional mechanics is the use of starting fluid or brake wash. Simply spray around the engine with it running ( not on the exhaust ) and listen for a change in engine noise. Once You have found the area, turn the engine off and check for cracked vacuum hoses or leaky gaskets.

Q: where is the fuel filter located on the 2001 kia optima?
are there two filters?all the auto parts wholesalers list two filters, one in the tank.Any certified kia mechanics care to answer this question? thank you
Note:all outside filters need replacing about every 60,000 miles. But what about the one in the tank?Same mileage change?

A: No. the one in the tank is just a screen that cleans itself like a sump screen does. Replace it only when replacing the fuel pump and drain and clean the tank at the same time.

Q: 2001 Kia Optima gas gauge always shows on empty even when filled?
My Kia shows its empty even when its on full. I had my mechanic change the fuel level sender by replacing the pump and its still not working. Any advice? Thank you.

A: yeah like he said it is either your floater. orrrr it could just be a lot of dirt or corrosion on the electronics and its not reading how much gas is in the tank. i would suggest just hitting the trip odometer and finding out how many kms you get on a tank and hit the trip every time you fill up and every time you get to 500kms or whatever its time for a fill up. you know in the olden days cars didn’t even have gas gauges they had dip sticks in there gas tank. gas gauge is a luxery.

Q: Which car would you buy, 2002 Saturn L200 or 2004 Kia Optima?
The Saturn has 57k miles but 3 owners. The Kia Optima has 90k miles but had only 1 previous owner. Both going for around $4500. All other specs are about the same.

A: don’t know if this will help but my friend has a similiar saturn with about 70,000 on it and he is second owner..no problems and dealerships have all been good..don’t know bout the kia..i think i would give some weight to location of dealers

Q: 2003 kia optima gas filler auto release button?
where is the automatic release button for the gas filler door on a 2003 kia optima?i bought the car used.I cannot find where it is inside the car.The only button i see is the automatic trunk release button on the lower part if the inside drivers side door.I can’t put gas in my car.

A: the gas cap will relase by holding down the unlock button on the remote……or you can pop the trunk and look behind the liner on the side where the gas fill is and there should be a manual override lever to open your gas flap!!! good luck!!!!!

Q: What kind of seatbelt does a Kia Optima 2007 have?
I bought a crashed car and need to fix it, the airbag went off and I guess the seatbelt brakes with the impact. I need to know what model of seatbelt I need to get. Thanks!

A: Umm…a big black one, with a metal buckle…maybe a plastic red one…

Q: How do you change the ignition coil on a 2002 Kia Optima?
There are two coil packs. A diagnostics test revealed that the number 3 plug was bad. I had the plugs changed which helped but the point is mute if I don’t fix the problem at it’s source. I am planning to attempt changing the coil myself, as I have heard it is easy. Can anyone give me a detailed account of how to go about this?

A: 2 coil packs, that’s a V6, right? Did you change the wires too? I did so on an 05 V6 Optima and it was half easy (front 3) and half nightmare (rear 3). I can’t recall which one is #3, but the rear cylinders were a real b**** to change the plugs in, especially the right rear one. To get to them, you have to unbolt the intake, prop it up on blocks and it’s STILL hard to do without an assistant.

If the coil pack was bad, the problem would be on every cylinder that it fed, not just one of them. I learned that one when my 1987 Chevy Blazer (2.8L V6) conked out by tracing the ignition system forward piece by piece. Start out by having a friend turn the engine over (crank it) while you use a voltmeter on the coilpack’s output terminal. Put the positive lead on it, negative lead to ground (such as the hood latch). A good coil will output around 10-12 volts (my blazer did 10.73, compared to a new one doing 10.75). If it checks out, repeat the procedure at the distributor, or where the plug wires attach to for each cylinder. Since voltage is only applied in pulses for each cylinder (this is ignition timing), keep your eyes open, as it will be going on-off at 125 times per minute (idle speed divided by 6 cylinders)

If all the plug wire attachment points pass (10-12 volts), then it’s in your plug wires or a fouled plug. Repeat the distributor test at the end fo each plug wire.

Q: How much should it cost to have a tune up on a 2006 Kia Optima?
I have the LX V6 model and it has 29,324 miles on it.

A: it depends how much your local junkyard gives u for your kia and how much you have to pay for your new certified used car

now that s a tuneup

Q: Is the transmission good on a 2007 Kia Optima LX?
Also, how is the overall performance for this car and are they any good?

A: there mitsubishi transmissions and not bad as long as the previous owner took care of it and you keep the maintenance up on everything then will be ok

Q: How can I disconnect my catalytic converter Kia Optima 2006?
I want to disconnect my catalytic converter so my exhaust is richer in Carbon Monoxide.

A: well you got two choices you can cut it off all together and weld a spacer between and have the chance of failing an inspection or you can cut it off and beat the catalyic out and weld it back on fooling the mechanic that does the inspection and it will have deeper sound but it can be heard by a good mechanic

Q: How do I get my stock radio out of my 2008 kia optima?
No one can figure it out and I dont want to bring it somewhere since it costs alot, does anyone know how to do this?! Please help!

A: Crowbar will do the job quickly.

Q: How do you remove the factory stereo system in a 2007 Kia Optima?
I cannot figure out how to remove the facia around the factory stereo without breaking something.

A: I’m a kia tech and the facia is held in place with clips. You need plastic trim tools to keep from nicking your dash. I will say that the facia is on there very tight and can be a pain to pop loose at times. It has very close clearence and is hard to get behind.Just take your time and pry out from the botton with a trim tool until it comes loose.

Q: What is up with the radio in my Kia Optima?
Everytime I hit a bump the radio stops playing for a minute or so. And sometimes when the radio is off and I hit a bump, it comes on. Or opposite. I am guessing there is a short? Also while I am asking this question, sometimes when I roll one window up in my car, another one goes down?? It is the weirdest thing i’ve ever seen. My other car is an 87, so the windows are not power windows, so I have no clue as to why it would do that either. Any ideas?

A: 1. the stereo has a short

2 the windows are messed cause a wire ws probably messed when someone tried fixing something in the past

TLTQ

Q: Air Pollution Score For 2010 Kia Optima ?
What is the air pollution score for the 2010 Kia Optima ? I need to know the answer ! Its for my school project on green cars . And how green is the 2010 Kia Optima ? Answer very quickly , search or something because this is urgent !
Giveme car suggestions that are electronic,hybrid….. I also love a glossy red colour for cars!

A: Carbon footprint according to the EPA in links below. One of the links is for the 2009 model because it provided more information, but you can look up the 2010 model which is about the same.

Edit: The second link didn’t work correctly so I deleted it. Anyway, you can look up the information (on any car) you need from the first link.

Q: Which cost more in maintenance BMW 5 series or Audi 4 or 6 series?
My bf wants to buy a pre-owned luxury car but is looking for something that will not break his pockets in maintence fees after the two year warrenty is up.

How much is the average upkeep for a BMW and Audi?

A: They are both expensive to repair. The experience of my client base is that the Audi will need repairs more frequently.

Good luck and good motoring!

Q: Where can I buy BMW 5 Series Interior Trim?
I have a 2006 545 (e60). I have the wood trim in my car, but I would really like to change that to a silver-colored, aluminum or carbon fiber trim. I want a more sporty look. Does anyone know where I can buy this trim? I am not interested in an overlay kit. I don’t want something that looks cheap. I want something that will look nice in my car.

A: There are lots of good ones on EBay,

Andy

Q: An Infiniti G35 coupe (2005) or a 2005 BMW 5 series. Which would you rather go for?
An Infiniti G35 coupe (2005) or a 2005 BMW 5 series. Which would you rather go for?
I’ve got a wife and a 1 year old son at the moment so don’t mind a coupe. Just a bit unsure as to which is a better car to own……………..in terms of looks, maintainance, durability, insurance, etc.
I understand both cars are quite different but these just happen to be the cars I love………and can afford.
Thanks.

A: Myself would take them both out the G35 which as we know is really also the 350gt skyline which is really the rear seated 350z.

As the car themselves they are both good and which is better,i would say that depends on you really and your choice against opinions we have unless we have owned both them that’s all it is.

I do like the BMW range and always have but to be fair, they have lost there edge of the class they are.

Q: how much does a BMW 5 series or 7 series cost in barbados?
a 2007 and above. Not for rent , I mean to buy a new one.

A: A New BMW 5 series will cost around $300,000 BDS or $150,000USD. A 7series will cost around $400,000 BDS or $ 200,000 USD. A 2001 X5 cost $150,000 BDS or $75,000 USD, and a 2002,7series cost about $150-175,000 Bds.The funny thing about this is that these prices are for the lowest range on the market, there are more expensive than some of the fastest and most powerful sports cars in the world.I am working in Sweden and a BMW 7 series V12 top of the range cost $275,000 Bds.A top of the range Audi R8 Super car with v10, 550hp cost $300,000 Bds,a BMW 5 series cost $175000Bds these are all top of the range for these prices and the best money can buy,so you can compare the prices. My advice is to get a taxi permit and get one duty free, then it will cost you $200,000 Bds or buy one they have from the 2007 world cup cricket, last time i check they wanted $200,000.

Q: What kind of discount can I expect to get on a 2010 BMW 5-series?
Currently at 2300 under MSRP on a 2010 5-Series w/ average equipment

A: What is edmunds TMV vs MSRP? If you can hold out a bit the 2011 5-series comes out soon, the closer to their release the lower you should get the price.

Q: will a bmw 5 series door glass fit a 7 series door, as they look the same?
i have a 7 series with a broken n/s rear door glass and was wondering if the 5 series was the same

A: The 7 is a little longer in the back than the 5.

For example

1992 5 series:

DOOR WINDOW, REAR LEFT 51 34 1 944 087

1992 7 series

DOOR WINDOW, REAR LEFT51 34 1 928 361

Not the same.

Q: bmw 5 series power chip E60?
I have a brand new tuning chip to increase power on a new shape 5 series bmw e60 type, anyone want to buy it from me.

A: send me pictures and a price

Q: On a BMW 5 series, what does a yellow gear with an exclaimation mark indicator on the dash mean?
not the brake one
i think the traction control is a triangle

A: First off, I would reference the owner’s manual if you haven’t already. If you don’t have an owner’s manual, call the service dept. at the BMW dealership. Depending on the year of your model they should be able to tell you what this means since normally most dash icons stay consistent from generation to generation. I’m going to hazard a guess that maybe it’s a shift indicator? Typically, when you’re driving a manual transmission there is an indicator that flashes briefly when you need to shift up to the next gear. If, however, your particular 5-series is automatic/steptronic only and you see it in both modes, I’d take it in to the dealership. There could be something wrong with the car when it shifts in automatic mode or possibly a problem with the way you’re shifting in steptronic mode. If you see it often that could be an indicator that something is not right, BMW’s are pretty intuitive. Over time, consistently seeing this indicator could have a detrimental effect on your engine, providing this indicator is a warning that something is wrong. Good Luck!

Q: BMW 5 series 6 years old how do you reset the faulty bulb warning light Thanks?

A: try replacing the blown bulb your i drive will tell you what bulb needs replacing, use your check control function, when a good bulb is used then the warning turns itself off

Q: towbar from 1996 BMW 5 series saloon, will it fit 02 model? was chassis altered?
towbar from 1996 BMW 5 series saloon, will it fit 02 model? was chassis altered?

A: No, chassis is different. The later E39 is also available with a removable bar.

Q: which car is better 2buy 2004 Mercedes kompressor or the 2004 BMW series 5 both used?
I am trying to figure out which one I should get for my 1st car. Both at a pretty good price with good mileage.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: BMW 5 series problems?
Can someone tell me why my BMW 5 Series, L reg tourer, idles perfectly but when I go to accelerate it is really slugish and doesn’t go more than 20mph? It feels like it is being starved of fuel but that is all ok. Any suggestions please?

A: There are lots of different potential reasons for this, check the usual things first. Fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, ht leads etc.
If all these things are OK, try removing the fuel line then turn the ignition on but don’t start the engine. Fuel should pump out of the fuel line, take your finger and try to block of the end of the pipe. If you are able to stop the flow then the electric fuel pump probably needs to be changed.
Ja.

Q: 1986 bmw 5 series broken speedometer?
I have an old bmw 528e and the speedometer is broken. Can anyone tell me how I can fix it myself?

A: Well you have a few possibilities unless its a really rare never happened problem. Lets start with the easy stuff. at the rear differential there are two wires that send a signal fro the sensor in the diff’s cover. Sometimes a cheap exhaust is put on and the wired get burned bad. Next lets remove the 2 bolts hat hold the sensor in. Pull it out (it can only go back in one way) if there is a lot of junk stuck to it clean it and put it back in.
Ok here is the most common problem, at its a 300 dollar part. This part can be repaired cheaply but the repair usually done not last long no matter how they do it. Ok this part is commonly called the SERVICE INDICATOR board. The name sounds wrong but its the right part. It runs all the gages and some lights and works with the trip computer if you have that common option.
To get this part out you have to remove the steering wheel
1. remove the horn button usually is the easy pop out type.
2. with a 22 MM socket and an extension plus ratchet you loosen and remove the bolt. Just let it lay in the hole. Turn the key to the on position and simply lift the wheel off.
3. Up high by the top of the clear window for the gages there are 2 small screws. remove them
4. with a butter knife lip it between the dash and gage cluster and pull it towards you till you can get a grip on the cluster. pull it a ways out. Remove all the wires. the white/ yellow and blue big plugs have a black thing on them you have to slide them back with a tiny screwdriver as a puller. then you can remove the wires.
5. once you have the cluster in your hands set it down and remove all the screws on the outside border and 2 that are at the bottom just an inch up.
6. pull the gages away from the frame of the cluster and remove a black clip that is behind the tach (pulls straight down.
7. with a little force pull the tach away and off the board
8. pull the speedo off
9. behind the temp and fuel gage are two tiny nuts down deep in a hole and remove them.
10. (fading here my memory) I think now you can pull back the temp and gas gage with two white ribbon wires that pull off the SI board.
11. You down to the si board see the little AA looking batteries they are the problem the acid ate your boards connections up.
12. there are 2 tiny regular slotted screws that hold the board to the white frame.
13 Replace the board
Programma has a new better board that does not have batteries. They cost retail about 300 bucks. The good news is that if your temp gage or any other gage was dead it/they will come back to life.

Q: does any1 know were i can get a used bmw 5 series engine?
i am looking for a bmw 5 series used engine 1996 the new shape 523i

A: here in erbil-iraq we have tons of it.some of it looks preety new you can get it by 500 dollars.dont be afraid of the terrorists its quite safe around our region kurdistan we are not arab we are kurdish nation.

Q: i want to buy bmw 5 series from germany and export it to asia. what problem will i face?
i live in central asia turkmenistan.

A: If you buy a new BMW from BMW’s Tourist and Diplomatic Sales, they will prep the car to your country’s specifications.

Not only that, you will also be able to spec your car with any options you like without being tied to the “packages” that dealers normally force you to take. You simply just look for a transport company to ship it to your destination… it’s straight forward.

Your only problem is when the car reaches your country, some countries require an import permit (which may require tons of paperwork or some form of bribery), customs are likely wanting a big bribe too if you don’t know anyone; getting the car inspected and finally registration papers for the car (which may also involve bribing someone).

A: On the left side of your display, you should see some stuff you can select for turning on/off the camera, and the parking aids. Move the wheel over to it, and press it to turn it on. The owners manual is also a good place to look.

Q: What color should I paint my black BMW X5’s brake calipers?
I have a 2001 black BMW X5. The wheels are simple silver metal. They are not shiny. They aren’t really chrome. I was thinking that the calipers would be painted red, but maybe yellow or even black. The brakes themselves are silvery grey.

A: Chevy hugger orange,I’m gonna need a tissue I’m crying over here

Q: Anyone have a problem with the ignition key to a BMW x5 suddenly popping out, stopping the vehicle?
I was driving down the road when suddenly the ignition key for my 2007 BMW X5 just “popped out”, stopping the vehicle. The only way to drive the vehicle is to keep the keep in the ignition with my hand. Any suggestions or ideas as to what is wrong and/or how to fix this?

A: Dude, this is not just a drivability issue but a safety issue as well… do not entrust your life to this forum. Bring it to a dealer or at least a good BMW independent shop.

A: It really depends on what type of music you like but…

Q: What is the correct tire pressure for BMW x5 3.0i 2002 with stock 17 inch tires?
I have BMW x5 3.0i 2002 with non sport pakcge stock rims 17inch with 235/65/r17 tires on it. I need to knwo what is the correct tire pressure to ride comfortably?

A: If you open the car door, there is a label on the pillar near the lock that shows min and max pressure for your tyres, the lower the pressure, the lower the mpg but the better comfort..

Q: What Fog Light bulb do I need for my BMW x5?
I have a 2001 BMW x5. My passenger side fog light is out. What bulb do I get to replace it?

A: Well your going to replace it so take the old one out go to the store and get a new one just like it. There are numbers you can use on the old one to get the right new one.

Q: DSP in BMW X5 ? Any difference with out DSP premium audio?
I am planning to buy BMW x5 3.0 2002,but it doesn’t have DSP in it,so just stock speakers. Is there any difference in loudness and quality of stereo with DSP and with out? Thanks for helping out.

A: Huge difference in sound. Many other sound options including reverb and sound efects, graphic equalizer, along with higher watt output. Well worth the price if you’re inot music. If you’re an AM talk radion kind of person you don;t need it.

Q: What does a 2001 BMW x5 DRIVETRAIN transfer case look like?
What does a 2001 BMW x5 DRIVETRAIN transfer case look like?

I assumed you have the 3.0L, you didn’t specify.

Q: How much would it cost to paint BMW x5 3.0i 2002 bumbers and skirts?
Hello,I ahve alpine white BMW x5 3.0i. It has balck bumpers and black skirts(or steps I woudl say). i want to paint it all white, like on this picture

http://images.truckinweb.com/features/0803tr_02_z+2001_bmw_x5+rear_view.jpg

How much would it cost me to do so? Thanks.

A: This can be cheap if you do a lot of the work yourself i.e. sanding if need be and taping the car up yourself then its just a case of getting a pro to do it for you i would say a $400-700 depending on where you take it.

Q: What type of gas do you use for a 2006 BMW x5?
I just purchased a BMW x5 and was wondering what type of gas do you use? Premium? Regular? I also have a 2005 Honda Accord and Honda is built to use regular gas

A: Bor the BMW, 93 Octane if available otherwise use 92. If you use regular gas, you engine will knock.

Q: whereWhere to buy a upgrade for sat nav BMW X5 2002 and how do i doit?
Where to buy a upgrade for sat nav BMW X5 2002 and how do i doit?

Q: How much miles you got on your BMW x5?
How much miles you got on your BMW x5? Anyone who has mroe than 150k? What major issues you had with BMW x5?

A: 104,000 miles, no major issues to speak of. I have replaced: brakes, battery, window regulators & a fuel pump.

Q: Would anybody be interested in buying a complete stranger a 2004 BMW X5 suv?
Just seeing if anybody would buy a BMW X5 SUV in metallic grey for a complete stranger. If you would just answer this.

A: Sure!

Go wait by the curb. My unicorn will come pick you up in an hour.

Q: What does the red “BRAKE” light mean on a BMW X5?
My wife drives a 2006 BMW X5. This evening on the way home a red “BRAKE” light appeared on her dash. I am having a hard time figuring out exactly what this means. Low brake fluid? Brakes need replacing? Thoughts? Thanks!
I have the manual, but it is rather vague on this topic.

A: Hi

The cap of the brake fluid reservoir has been designed in order to recognize a low fluid level of the hydraulic brake system by triggering a red warning lamp in the instrument cluster. a switch that is attached to this cap could malfunction at high temperatures.

Andy

Q: The displays on the radio/where the mileage is shown in my 2002 BMW X5 are fading..how is it fixed?
I have a 2002 BMW X5 and the displays on the radio and where the mileage is displayed are fading.
The mileage isn’t bad, but the radio display is patchy and hard to read.

What will need to be done to fix this?
About how much will it cost?

A: If the instrument cluster is the “high” type then it has no replaceable bulb for it is illuminated by LED’s. But you can adjust the luminosity using the switch on the leftmost side of the dashboard (with a left hand drive vehicle). If it is the “low” type then there are replaceable bulbs at the back of the cluster.
LED’s are also the case with the radio (except those with a central video display). So the only alternative is to change the radio (specially if some of the LED’s go missing. Since you failed to mention what kind of radio your car has I can not tell you if the luminosity can be adjusted
(but usually they are not).
Both cluster and radio are costly and the former even needs to be coded if replaced. Labor depends on where you are. l hour for the cluster and radio each would be a fair charge.

Q: Why is my key stuck in the ignition and why won’t my car shift into gear? It’s a 2003 Cadillac CTS.?
Why is my key stuck in the ignition and why won’t my car shift into gear? It’s a 2003 Cadillac CTS.?
I have a 2003 Cadillac CTS that won’t shift out of park or allow me to remove the key from the ignition sometimes. My “service theft system” light comes on

A: try turning the entry key one time around. hopefully it is the right key you put in there.

Q: Should i get a 07 Cadillac CTS or a 07 Nissan Altima?
I really like the CTS, but i realized that 07 was the last year they made that bodystyle. However 07 was the first year they made the new Altima, so would it be a better choice to get the Altima?

A: When I bought my 06 Altima, they asked me if I wanted to be on the wait list for the 07’s. Glad I didn’t, the 07’s are way too sporty (unless you’re into that). The 06’s have a third party upgrade which make it look ALOT like a Mercedes. If you had to chose, I would say get the Cadillac because it’s rear-wheel drive AND they usually come with a LSD pre-installed. Taking corners in an Altima is pretty tough, but in the Caddy, you’ll be able to drift the corners (given you get a manual transmission). If you’re just buying it for looks and not real performance such as cornering and drifting, I would say get the Altima, it has a MASSIVE interior.

Q: How much would it cost to have a new transmission put into my ‘04 cadillac cts?
I don’t have transmission available however. I’m specifically looking for a transmission and the costs to put one in. I’m in nyc. I heard it costs thousands, but not sure.

A: A new one should cost 3 to 4 thousand. A used one maybe half that.

Q: I really, really want a Cadillac CTS but they are very expensive, do you have any tips on saving for a car?
Or any tips on how to buy one while on a budget. I would really perfer to buy rather than lease because I drive 50 miles round trip to work mon-fri. I am having a hard time justifing a purcharse like this especially since I live in Michigan and the whole purpose of me looking for a new car was reliability in the harsh winter.LOL But for some reason I have to have this car.

A: You could get a second job and save every penny you can. Or you could buy a used one.

Q: why does my acura tsx requiers premium unleaded gas? and the cadillac cts requieres any gas even regular?
is it something about the engine that runs better with premium? and if it is please explain. thank you!

A: The reason is technology. The Cadillac uses advanced technology to allow the engine to burn lower octane fuel without “knocking” or pre-ignition. The higher the octane of the fuel, the harder it is to ignite it. Using low octane fuel in a engine designed for higher octane fuel leads to pre-ignition, or the knocking, clattering sound you hear when the engine is under a load. Fuel and ignition timing, injector duration and pattern and engine internal design can allow a very powerful engine to still use “regular” fuel. Burning high octane fuel in an engine designed for low octane fuel is a waste and can actually damage the engine because all of the fuel may not burn and can dilute the lubrication properties of the oil. Burning low octane fuel in an engine designed for high octane fuel can cause severe damage to pistons, valves and cylinder heads.

Q: How much does it cost if anything goes wrong on a Cadillac CTS?
I want one really bad but my mom said it would cost too much to fix it if something went wrong.

A: New ones have a pretty good warranty. After that runs out an arm will be enough to get mosts problems fixed unless it is a red CTS, then expect an arm and a leg. You are not supposed to drive this car if you have to ask the cost or price.

Q: 2003 Cadillac cts a/c leak causing water to pool inside the car?
I have a 2003 Cadillac cts. There is an a/c water leak underneath the center Consul. Its causing everything to get wet! I took the carpet out behind the drivers seat and water is actually pooling back there.

Any ideas on how to fix this?? I found out that it isn’t the a/c drain. But the leak is coming from the a/c.

thanks!!

A: The part of the air conditioning in your car that cools off the interior is called the evaporator. The refrigerant is being expanded from a liquid state to a vapor state. This is what makes the evaporator remove heat from the car’s interior.

Now when something gets cold, it usually begins to condense the moisture in the air around it. Just like when you have an ice cold drink, you see water condense on the outside of your glass. This is from the moisture of the surrounding air.

The same thing is happening inside the enclosure where your air conditioning evaporator is at. This enclosure has a series of vents that depending on what controls you select at the dashboard, will open or close vents from the outside or to specific vents inside your car.
But this box has another important part, and that is a drain plug to drain off all of the condensation water from removing all of that moisture in the air inside your car.

This is why on a hot day, you will see a steady trickle of water dripping out of a car’s bottom. It is the condensation water draining off.

In the case of your car, that drain is clogged. More than likely with mold.

The reason I am going through all of this explanation is so that you know what is going on, and you don’t get ripped off when you take your car to the repair shop.

Your AC is fine.

Q: What is the minimum octane rating I should put in my ‘04 Cadillac CTS-V?
I just got a CTS-V, I know it takes premium, but how premium, does anyone have octane estimates?

does it HAVE to have premium? its so expensive

A: 91 premium octane….The engine has to burn that octane due to the fact that lower octane you will lose power and the engine can’t burn it efficently….It’s designed to run on minimum 91. if you use 89 it will not power up as fast and shake. 87 even worse power lose and worse shaking. 91 is more easy to burn it’s got a lower flash point than other octanes.

Q: Where is the IAT sensor located on the 2008 Cadillac CTS?
I am trying to install a performance computer chip. And it says to locate the sensor and unplug it.

A: If you look next to the air filter box, where the hose attaches to the box, you will see a connector in the vertical position. That should be the connector for the Mass air flow/ intake charge temperature sensor.

Q: What are the names of the 4 Oxygen sensors on a 03 Cadillac CTS?
I believe it is Bank 1
Bank 2
Upstream
Downstream

But someone said something about sensor 1 and sensor 2. I’m confused?
So it would be Bank 2 sensor 2? I know the Mechanic said two 2’s so it must be that one.

A: Bank 1 Sensor 1 Bank 2 Sensor 1

Catalytic Conv. Catalytic Conv.

Bank 1 Sensor 2 Bank 2 Sensor 2

Q: How do you know if you have ambient lighting on a 08 Cadillac CTS. Its not on, but is an option on the car?
I bought the car used, so I dont have the sticker to show options. Thought there could be a place to turn off/on. Any help?

A: If you cant see a switch on either the left or right side of the wheel you dont have it

Q: How do I connect a DVD player audio output RCA to my stock Cadillac CTS stereo?
I know how to hook the monitors to the video out, but i don’t know how to connect the audio…

A: Get a tape adapter or an FM modulator, and plug that in.

Q: What size tweeters can fit inside the factory tweeter location on a 2006 Cadillac CTS?
I am buying new speakers to replace the delphi factory system but I want to find tweeters that will fit in the factory locations.

A: there is a lot more space than 1 inch for tweeter also if you have the bose system the speakers are 2 ohms it is best to remove the door panel and look at the factory speakers first

Q: How does a rear-facing infant carseat fit in a 2004 or so Cadillac CTS?
Just wondering if there was much room or do the front seats have to be pushed forward a bunch?

A: That’s a good sized car. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t fit with the seats in their normal spot and still have some room.

If you are really worried about it then put the seats in and see. Or you could just measure it.

Q: How do I change the stock shift knob on a 2003 Cadillac CTS?
I am working on it right now from a laptop and Im really getting pissed at this thing. so plz help.

A: Dude Just Ring Your Cadillac Service Centre and ask. saves u this mess lol

Q: Does a Ford Edge drive like a van? Is it a family vehicle? How does the Ford Flex drive?
Is the Edge basically a soccer mom and dad vehicle like a van?

A: They both drive more like cars than trucks or traditional SUV’s because they are car based. They are also not SUV’s they fall into the realm of crossovers. They are basically glorified station wagons/minivans. They are primarily front wheel drive and have unibody construction. They are not made for any kind of real off road use.

Q: Does the Ford Flex have good storage capacity?
We are looking into a Ford Flex because it is such a cool vehicle! However, we are a outdoorsy family who likes to camp. With the third row down, could you scrape and fit al your stuff inside (tent, food, matress, etc.) Only answer if you are a Ford Flex owner or know extensive amounts about the vehicle. Thanks!

A: are u kidding me?! heck yes!! i love my new ford flex!! and i just took it camping last weekend!! trust me in this. its amazing. id go to the dealer first because i was extremely unsure then i went and looked at it and it was very nice. i made a deal right there!! i was gonna get and expedition but wayyyy to gass guzzlerish. it even has wood trim and bixenon headlamps(the white ones) and everything and the whole cr lights up blue inside!!! take a look urself…

Q: What do you think about the Ford Flex?
My husbad and I are thinking of getting one as an alternative to a minivan. If you have one, please let me know how you like it and if there are any problems with it. If you don’t have one, would you get one?

A: The last job I has was working for Enterprise Rent A Car and we had just gotten a lot of these. On average they will get about 2,000 hard driven miles a week on them, this is the testing ground. Of all the cars we had, this was the only one that every one loved. They also have the best crash safety rating of any Ford vehicle on the road. Which is 5 stars, the highest possible. I’d give them an A+. My best advice though if you buy any new car is to keep tabs on recalls. The Flex is fairly durable and really fun to drive, but all of the technology in it is new. Getting an extended warranty will cost you a few hundred dollars more, but can save you from paying thousands in the future. I hope this helps. Happy Motoring

Q: When is the new Ford Flex 2010 (with EcoBoost engine) due to come out in Canada?
When can consumers start placing orders?

A: read it here…http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=When%20is%20the%20new%20Ford%20Flex%202010%20(with%20EcoBoost%20engine)%20due%20to%20come%20out%20in%20Canada?

Q: Why is the Ford Flex so darn ugly?
I mean from the front it’s fine… But the back…? Seriously, Ford? Let’s put no thought or style into the back. What are your thoughts?
And this is coming from someone who LOVES the Mercedes G-Wagon.

A: I like it! It’s better than some lame mini-van!

I wouldn’t own either one but…..

Q: ford flex brakes doing allot of grunting?
can anybody tell me if they have an issue with their brakes on ford flex?

A: CHECK YOUR BRAKE PADS

Q: What is the song from the ford flex commercial? [vid included]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n53sVCGS3ro&feature=related
there it is
its toward then end of it it comes on
what is that song?!

A: L.E.S. Artistes [Remix] by Santogold, Squeak E. Clean

Q: Doesn’t the New Ford Flex look suspiciously similar to the old Scion XB?
I thought this immediately when i saw it, that it was a ripoff.
anyone else?

A: yeah it does, its a little longer than the Scion XB but mostly the same.

Q: Which vehicle would be better for a snowy climate of Timmins, Ontario: Ford Escape or Ford Flex?
I love both vehicles and value to merits of each. I’m torn between the Flex and the 09 Escape. I’ve recently started a job as a pharmacist in Timmins, ON (A LOT of snow) and want to get ready for winter. I’m curious as to which of the two vehicles would better handle hard winters once equipped with snow shoes: a AWD Flex, a AWD Escape, or a 4×4 Escape.

Thanks in advance

A: The flex is bigger by far. it’s heavier and has taller, wider tires, which means it will perform better in the snow. although the escape has a higher ground clearance, which means less likely to get stuck on a snow bank. one thing i can’t find online is technical data on the drivetrains. you will want to choose that one that has differential locks for front axle and/or rear axle, but most importantly a center differential, which means at least one front wheel and at least on rear wheel will always have power. My last car only had a lock on the rear axle, which means that if the back wheels started to slip, there was NO power going to the front wheels, rendering the “AWD” system useless. tires will be more expensive for the flex, gas mileage will be better on escape. The flex is a better car, but more expensive. Me, i’d get the escape if you plan on using it primarily as a commuter. The Flex is a better family car because it is larger and a more comfortable drive.

Q: Morning everybody; Hey do any of you know how much a 2009 Ford Flex License plate cost to be renewed?
In the U.S
Michigan an RENEWING

A: Depends on what state you’re in. So go to the DMV site for whatever state you’re planning on registering the car with

Q: What is the song in the new Ford Flex commercial? The female sings the words “ride with me”.?
The song has a sultry/blues sound to it.

A: Hey pretty by Poe’s

http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=2zN2MqiYjug

Q: Any know about the Ford Flex?
Really interested in the Ford Flex, thinking about buying it. Let me know what you think about the car, good or bad.

A: Its a nice car but has some quirky sightlines and design to it. Personally I dont like it, mainly because I think it’s overpriced. You need to personally test drive one. I bought a Ford Edge instead, Found it to be more comfortable, and a better ride quality. Hope this helps!

Q: What’s that song on the Flex Ford commercial?
It’s a really cool song. And I want to get it on itunes.

A: Search itunes for “L.E.S Artistes” by Santogold, I am not sure but may be what you are looking for.

Q: How much coolant does a 2000 Ford Taurus Flex Fuel hold?
Like the title says. I searched the internet but found nothing. Thanks!!

A: 11.0L
(11.6 quarts)
^According to the owners guide (page 206)
It also has an additional notation:
“Use Ford Premium Engine Coolant (green in color). DO NOT USE Ford
Extended Life Engine Coolant (orange in color). Refer to Adding engine
coolant, in the Maintenance and Care chapter.”

If you don’t have an Owners Guide, Digital Owners manuals can be downloaded right from Fords Owner website.
I can give you a direct link to the pdf download file:

2000 Ford Taurus
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WOYTAU/~MUS~LEN/41/00tauog1e.pdf
Or use the link to the Ford owners Site from:

http://www.ford.com

You don’t have to log-in or register to view or copy owners Guides. Just submit the year/make/model

(Occasionally, if the servers are down at Ford.. the links will not work. If that happens and you get an error message, just give it a try later.)

I hope this helps.

Q: What do u think of the Ford Flex?
I heard alot of women use it
I don’t see how it’s a womans car
That’s what im afraid of when buying the Ford Flex

2008 Ford Flex
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/2009_Ford_Flex_Limited.jpg
I want to know if guys such as myself use it

A: This is an excellent vehicle for anyone. Its 10x more stylish than a minivan. It has all the bells and whistles (navigation, satellite, dvd player, power everything). Available refrigerator in the back seat is super cool.

Q: Is it harder to lift a Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ than a jeep cherokee xj?
I want to get a jeep and put at least a 4.5″ lift on it i have been searching craigslist for Jeep XJ Cherokees but there aren’t very many for sale around my area. but there are plenty of grand Cherokees. i was just wondering if i should keep searching for the XJ or get a Grand Cherokee ZJ. im looking for models that are between 1993-1998 thanks.

A: Much more complicated and expensive.

I wonder though, you are looking at two very different vehicles and your only question is which is easiest to lift?

If you actually plan to drive off-road then you should consider looking a bit further out for that XJ. It is much more suitable for that type of usage since the approach angles are better and there are more parts at less cost. For street styling and occasional off road use you might as well go with the ZJ for comfort and maybe a bit more style (I like square though LOL).

The amount of lift is not the factor that you should be considering though, you should consider what size tire you want to run and then lift accordingly.

Q: What year did 4×2 start in the Jeep Grand Cherokee series?
What year did the 4×2 addition in the Jeep Grand Cherokee start, so that you could switch between 4×4 and 4×2?

A: The very first Grand Cherokee was the 1993 model and it had three four wheel drive systems. Command-Trac, a part-time system that allowed 4WD for off road use only, Selec-Trac, which allowed 4WD on or off road (both allowing 2WD also) and Quadra-Trac, a strictly full-time system.

BTW – Just in case you did mean actual 2WD (which one answerer assumed) with no driven front axle it was the 1997 model (V-8 only) – even some of the Jeep sites get the year wrong so I took a moment to find one http://www.epinions.com/review/auto_Make-1997_Jeep_Grand_Cherokee/content_112931212932 LOL

Q: What other year jeeps Grand Cherokee engines are compatible with a 1995 jeep Grand Cherokee?
I smashed my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I would like to get another one so that i can re-use the parts from my wrecked jeep. I’ve been looking for the same year, a 1995 Grand Cherokee, but I’m not having any luck. So I was just wondering if the 1993-1998 models were similar in the engine and parts to my 1995?
BTW the engine’s a straight 6, 4.0.

A: 1993-1995 are the same, 1996 -1998 had the OBD II Computer and sensors.

Q: How do you replace a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee cooling fan?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I believe the electric cooling fan is bad. How do you get it out without disassembling the entire front of the car?

A: the temp sensors do not control the fan. the fan is controlled by a pulse wifdth modulated realy under the right headlamp. the engine controller directly controls the relay looking at coolant temp, a/c input, a/c pressure, and trans temp. first check your fuse. it its good, unplug the fan connector. its about 1/2 way donw the shroud on the right side. 2 wires. jump the fan side of the connector, black to ground, green to voltage. the motor should run. if it doesn’t you probably need a relay. to get to teh relay you have to remove the front bumper cover and the relay is bolted to the sheet metal under the right headlamp. its mounted here to dissipate the high heat. if you need to remove the fan, remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the fan shroud to the radiator support. for the bottom left bolt get it from underneath with about 4 feet of extension and a 1/4 inch drive 10mm swivel. you can remove the top radiator hose for more clearace, but hte assembly will come out if you don’t. once the bolts are out and you have it unplugged, take it straight up and out. there are alot of things to work around, and the plastic is fragile. once the shroud is out, remove the 3 bolts that hold the fan to the shroud to remove the fan assembly. i would recommend seeing your dealer before you start any of this. many grand cherokees with both 4.0 and 4.7 engines had a recall come out last year for the fan motor.

Q: How can I increase my mpg on the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
Ok I have Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and in the last couple of months my mpgs have gone down a good bit like my jeep is eating gas. I had it tuned up about two years old and have brand new tires. What can I do?

A: buy low rolling resistance tires, try coasting more often(foot off the gas), if it’s a 4×4 switch it to 2wd mode if possible, accelerate slower, switch the engine, transmission & differential oils to synthetic oil, don’t drive around with a bunch of junk in your car, buy an aftermarket air intake & buy an aftermarket performance muffler(allows the engine to “breathe” easier),

Q: The power locks in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee have slowly gone downhill. Any suggestions?
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The power door locks are slowly starting to die. It started with my rear locks only working once in awhile and now the driver side only locks manually. I’m looking for any suggestions before I take it to a mechanic. I’m in a new town and don’t know any reputable mechanics yet. Thanks!

A: Make sure you have a good ground connection between the engine and the chassis. The locks pull a lot of current, so if that ground is bad they won’t work too well. The best way to tell if it’s a voltage problem is to lock and unlock the doors while you’re driving at night and see if it makes the headlights dim or flicker.

Q: how much could i get for my 1998 jeep grand cherokee lerado from the insurance company?
Does anyone have any idea how much an insurance company would give for a 1998 jeep grand cherokee lerado? 225,000 miles, and a slightly bent frame?

A: http://www.nadaguides.com/

Q: How to change the radiator on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L engine, and i wanted to know if anybody can help me with a step by step instructions on how to replace the radiator?

A: Simply open up your Jeep User and Repair Manual and follow the steps as shown. If you do not have the manual you can always order if from the manufacturer. There are too many steps involved in changing the radiator.

Q: What other year Jeep Grand Cherokee seats will fit my 2002?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My drivers side seat broke so I need a new one. I was just wondering what other year Cherokee seats will fit mine. I found a few but none for a 2002.

A: 2000 to 2004 will be the years most like yours but you can go a little older, up to 1999. Just remember, all the seats are not the same, such as the electrical systems may have different switches like heat or no heat and so on and so forth.

What broke? The frame?
If so, a good reupholster shop can take it apart and weld the frame back as good as new for a minimal charge and get you going again.

Good Luck.

Q: What is causing rattle in rear end of ‘96 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
‘96 Jeep Grand Cherokee has developed a rattle in it’s rear end. It’s not the exhaust. Seems like I heard that these Cherokees have this problem. Anybody know what causes it, and how to fix it?
Thanks
any info on how to replace rear suspension, upper arm, ball joint on this Cherokee? Maybe online video, or step-by-step tutorial/instruction?

A: I’m not familiar with your suspension but it could be sway bar bushings. I would take it to a garage , have them lift it and take a gander.

Q: How much to replace a headlight on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I was in a small accident the other day. The right side headlight was damaged. No other damaged occurred. I’m wondering how much it should cost to replace a head light on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee? I want to know not just the cost of the part but also approx cost of labor. Thanks!

A: you can get the part cheaper at an auto salvage and take it to any repair shop and they will hook you up. The cost of the light and bulb depends on where you get it and the repair shop shouldnt cost more than 50 dollars to put it in for you.

Q: Why is the heating system on my Jeep Grand Cherokee putting out cold air from the right side vents?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland and the heating system is putting out cold air from the right side vents. I have been told this repair will require the removal of the dash to access the unit that directs the air flow and will cost over $1,000.00. The vents on the drivers side work perfectly. Is there any way to handle this problem less expensively?

A: I have just recently discovered this problem on our 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The passenger side is ice cold while the driver side blows out hot air when the heater is engaged. I’ve been afraid to take it to a dealership. I’m afraid of the cost of fixing it…..Any suggestions?????

Q: How to install a water pump on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6 4WD?
I would like to know how to install a water pump on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Is it difficult? I can do minor repairs myself (window regulators, o2 sensors, etc..) would this classify as a simple repair? The more details the better! Any websites with some pictures would be appreciated too. Thanks

A: if your engine run’s side to side it will be a lil bit harder cuz of clearence but if the serp belts at the front it should be alot easyer

Q: How much does a transmission cost for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I just bought a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for $1,600 and I was wondering if it’s worth the price I paid since I have to buy a new transmission for it.It’s automatic, 4×4, and 6 cylinders. Around how much would a transmission for it cost? And is it worth investing in it? Thanks!

A: I had a 98 ZJ that I sucked quicksand into, and burned up the tranny. I pulled it myself and had it rebuilt for $500. Depending on where you live it would probably be $1000 to $1500 to drop it off and pick it up with a new/rebuilt transmission installed.

A maintained inline 6 4.0 liter Jeep engine will run 250,000 miles.

Q: What is the gas tank capacity for a 99 jeep grand cherokee?
my gas tank is bend and I fill it up with 12 gallons I want to replace it…

I was wondering what is the capacity for a 99 jeep grand cherokee?

A: 20.5 gallons or 78 liters for both 4.0 6cyl or 4.7 v-8.

For more information about Kia Soul visit your top automotive resource ThisWeekInMotors.com

Q: How much is a down payment on a Kia Soul?
I want the lowest down payment possible. I don’t care how long it takes be to pay it off but I need a car. I don’t have too much money saved up as of right now so what’s the lowest down payment I can put down on a Kia Soul?

A: If you have good enough credit the down payment could be $0.

“I don’t care how long it takes be to pay it off but I need a car. I don’t have too much money saved up as of right now so ”

That statement is dangerous. Particularly when dealing with cars with very high deprecation (like Kias) you will find yourself upside very quickly. If you need a car and don’t have a lot of money, you best but is going to buy a 4-5 year old used car with a proven track record for reliability and low operating costs. Buying a new car in such a situation is nothing short of folly.

Q: Are the kia soul hamsters making fun of the scion xb in the commercial?
You may have seen this commercial where these hamsters start rapping and saying that the kia soul is better than other cars. It doesn’t name any other car by name, but a toaster drives by and the scion has been called a toaster. My Mom really wants to know.

A: They are, as well as the Honda Element, but it’s so stupid considering the Scion xB is the obvious best buy car out of the three. Who cares about a car with pulsing stero lights? Which car has been awarded and named the better car more times? The xB, which car has the larger aftermarket and accessory support? The xB. I’d like to see a little Kia Soul push 400whp on a all out stock motor. It can’t, the xB can. The xB is Scion, which for the past 3 or 4 years, has been named the most reliable car brand, ahead of it’s parent company Toyota. So really, tell me, which car is better? That is called false advertisment my friend, such as Chevy/GMC making the truck comercial with a Toyota Tudra, and Dodge Ram being torn apart in the mud, debadged…..

Each vehicle s made different and has it’s own aim.

Q: What do you think of the Kia Soul as a first car?
as far as a first car for a 16-year old girl how does the kia soul preform?
what are pros and cons?
1) not rich.
2) i’d like legit answers, please.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Whats the name and artist of that song on the Kia Soul commercial?
It’s the one with the hamster rockin in their Kia Soul… Everyones seen it… And the son is like You can go with this or you can go with that… Blah Blah Blah…. So what is it???

A: The song is “The Choice Is Yours” by Black Sheep. I’m working with Kia, and if you want to watch the commercial again, check out YouTube.com/KiaSoul. Older Soul commercials are posted as well. Enjoy!

Q: whats the yellow exclamation mark in my kia soul?
A yellow light ( like an upside down horse shoe with an exclamation point) came on in my kia soul. What is it?

A: Read the owners maunal it should have a very detailed information about it .

Q: how much would a used kia soul car cost?
is it really any good?
im 17 and i want a small car for easy driving considering im a new driver and because i got bad reviews on newer models vw beetle cars im looking into something else and i really like the look of the kia soul so any advise on this car would be very helpful. thanks!

A: Punctuation is your friend. It also helps other people determine what you are trying to ask.

Anyways, a used Kia Soul is going to depend on the model and the mileage/condition of the vehicle.
Kia’s do not hold their value well, but since the overall model is only 1-2 years old, you probably won’t find a decent one for under $10K.

Check autotrader.com and type in your zip code to see what is out there.

And I am not sure what you were trying to say, but if it was that the VW Beetle is garbage, then that is a correct assumption.

Q: What is the song in the Kia Soul commercial?
Anyone know the song in the new Kia Soul commercial?

Some of the lyrics I heard today were, “…shaking and moving… it feels like this… oh it feels like this…”

(not in that order though)

What is this song and who is the artist? It’s a male singing, sounds kinda jazzy with a thumping beat.

Thanks!

A: It’s do what you do feat. marz

Q: How much should I pay for a Kia Soul?
I am planning on buying a Kia Soul….base line automatic +…which MSRP’s for 16K… how much did you buy your Kia Soul for??

A: I don’t have a Kia Soul, but here a site you can use to help: below

You might want to change your area code, price may vary

Q: Is the kia soul illegal in north carolina?
Im getting a car in a year. I know LONG TIME! But I just was wondering. Someone said it was because its illegal to have blue or red lights flash in your car. The Kia soul has speakers that light up red. JUST WONDERING??

A: If the lights are visible from the outside to make it appear like you are law enforcement then they would be.

Q: Kia Soul. Has anyone owned one for year and let me know how they hold up.?
I am considering the purchase of a Kia Soul. I was very impressed by the test drive. But I am wondering how they hold over time? Do the interior pieces (ie door handles, knobs, etc) break? Please feel free to give me your impressions of the car.

A: Kia have come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years so you should not get any more problems than any other make (if any)

Q: Would you buy your 16 year old daughter a Kia Soul as her first car?
I’m just wondering, my friend is 16 but she’s wants the Kia Soul. I think she’s too young for a car that’s so new. Your opinions?
New as in, it came out this year, btw
I didn’t say it to her face O-o, just a thought in the back of my mind….

A: I would buy my child a classic project and help in its restoration and they would have something to be proud of and know what to do if something goes wrong.Old School.

Q: What is the song that plays during the kia soul commercials?
The song goes front back side to side. It’s the commercial with the hamsters.

A: Do what you do by Marz ft Pack and Mumiez

Q: what are the songs to the kia soul hamster commercial?
kia soul commercials, the one with the hamsters, there are like 5 commercials, does any one know all the songs, i cant find them anywhere, i dig the tunes

A: Gold Fish – Fort Knox
Calvin Harris – Colours
Marz – A New Way To Roll
MSTRKRFT – Bounce feat. NORE
Potbelleez – Junkyard

Q: Whats the song from that Kia Soul commercial with the giant hamsters?
Where all the hamsters are just running in their wheels, except for these two that are driving a red car. Thanks!

A: one of the songs is ‘do what you do’ by marz feat. pack and mumiez…..it’s really hard to find tho

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFHCfwF87…

Q: Why is the Kia Soul being advertised with hamsters, is that what the car is powered by ?
Inside the engine there’s a hamster cage full of hamsters with a running wheel .

A: Well, it’s foreign, so it can’t be powered by anything too great…

Q: Where is the fuel filter located on a 1995 Ford Mustang?
Where is the fuel filter located on a 1995 Ford Mustang GT?

A: on fords, its in either one of 2 spots. usually its along the frame of the car near the rear axle. i have seen some fords with the filter on the frame of the car right where it bends from under the hood under the body on the front passenger side

Q: Does a 2006 Ford Mustang need a brake and transmission flush?
The dealer recommended a brake fluid flush and transmission flush when I took my 2006 mustang in for service. The car has 63000 miles.

I did not notice either of these listed in the scheduled maintenance guide by Ford. I have never before had either of these.

A: You should change transmission fluid every 25-30k miles, by not doing so already, you probibly voided your warranty, so lesson be learned, 25-30k miles as specified by the manufacturer.

Brak fluid is kinda trivial, brake fluid doesnt fail, but fresh fluid keeps the inner seal of your calipers etc in good shape and prevents oxidation of the inside of them as well, which ultimately promotes a longer life of those parts.

Over time brake fluid absobs water which enters through the resevoir as moisture in the air, if it becomes saturated by absorbing water, you will have excess water in the system and the brakes may get soft, paricularly when braking hard and the fluid is heated inside the caliper, this does create a need ot replace brake fluid as it gets old, in your case, it isnt very old, but its nearing its time for replacement, i woudl just replace it, youll have a super stiff brake pedal after you do.

Q: putting an electric fan on my ford mustang?
I just want to ask if it was legal to put an electric fan on my ford mustang 5.0. I live in the state of california and i’m not quite sure what the smog law says about this. Thanks.

A: keeping it cool ?
what year ?
i’m sure a cooling fan has nothing to do with smog.

Q: What is your opinion on the Ford Mustang?
I’m thinking about buying a Ford Mustang as my first car, most likely a 98-03 somewhere in between there. What do you guys think of these mustangs? Are they dependable? I’ve heard alot of bad about Ford. Thanks!

A: People can tell you what they want about Ford. Ford makes great vehicles, No I don’t own one as a daily driver, I have a Mustang but that’s all. I’m a mechanic, so I see all sorts of problems, and Fords are very well designed, reliable vehicles. One guy that claims to know something about cars will tell another guy “Ford’s are junk” so then the other guy goes and tell another and so on, that’s how this whole thing started.

Of all cars on the road, I would have to say Chryslers are in most cases the worst of them all, reliable, but I think they hired a few drunks as engineers, as some of their stuff, is just terrible to work on, and some, (Neons) are the worst vehicles ever put on the street.

If you like the Mustang, buy it, They are extremely reliable, one of the most reliable cars on the market. At our shop, we have NEVER had a Mustang about the year of 96 come in for repairs with the 4.6, lots come in for modifications, but never repairs. I would go for the 2000-04 body style though, as they are quite the pretty car. Bang for buck, the best you can get.

Q: How do you get the rear calipor piston to screw in to be able to put back into place. Car 2002 ford mustang?
I cannot get the the rear calipers to screw back in, is there a trick to this. When I did the front brakes the calipers screwed in easily. I don’t get why the rear calipers are so difficult, they will not budge. Anyone have any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated! The car is a 2002 ford mustang V6 automatic.

Thank You

A: Go to your local parts store,Auto Zone or an O’reillys, ask them for a caliper tool that is used for Mustangs. Its a square that has different little studs on each side and has a 3/8 drive in the middle. Each set of studs will line up w/ a different piston in the caliper, find the one that fits your piston and turn the tool clockwise until the piston is seated all the way into the caliper. You wont be able to get the piston in w/o the tool. The tool casts about $8.00.Its a good investment.

Q: How much does it cost to wax and repaint a Ford Mustang…?
It’s a 1966 V8 Ford Mustang with red paint. I want to repaint it black. How much does it cost to wax and repaint? Is it cheaper to have it done in a shop?

A: why.would.you.wax.the.car
if.your.just.going.to.repaint.it?

and.youre.not.gonna.wax.it
for.about.3.months.after
the.paint.job.anyways..

Q: how much would it cost me to change the transmission on my 2000 ford mustang V6?
I have a ford mustang V6 and it’s automatic but i would like to switch it to a standard (stick shift). I heard I would have to buy a new transmission and switch it, but I’m not so sure about the costs. Can you guys help me out?

A: It wouldn’t be worth it, the car would never work correctly, if you go cheap. I would just sell it and buy a manual one. The one’s they sell that are manual of the same year are usually cheaper than the automatics.

Q: Will I be able to buy a new Ford manufacturer deck for my Mustang 05?
I have a Ford Mustang 05 which needs a new 500 deck. Would I be able to buy this at a dealership?

A: Most likely nawt

Q: I have a 1997 Ford Mustang, I want to know if the water pump is housed in the timing cover?
My timing cover gasket is leaking coolant, I would like to know if the water pump is housed in this area in the 1997 Ford Mustang? I would appreciate the help.

A: Since you didn’t say GT or V8 and because there is no 4-cylinder ‘97 Mustang, I’m going to assume you’ve got a 3.8L V6.

If that’s the case, the answer is yes. The timing cover is installed first, and it is essentially the backing plate for the water pump. The water pump is installed onto it, and the coolant must flow through ports in the timing cover to get to the rest of the engine.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Q: What is the average price to put a vinyl racing stripe down a 2000 Ford Mustang?
I want to put a vinyl racing stripe on my 2000 Ford Mustang and was wondering the average price for this is.
And I could give a flying crap about what you think of the car, I asked a question and it is expected of you to answer it.

A: the GT hood ones go for a little over 300 bucks
YR3Z 6320001-AAA
YR3Z 6320000-AAA

the v6 ones look like shit, if yours is a v6 sell it.

but if you refuse that, the v6 stripes are about 85 bucks per side, the price actually varies slightly based on what color stripe kit, white, black, or sandalwood.

Q: Ford Mustang?
Does anyone know if its possible to get eaglewing/lamborghini doors on the ford mustang? How much would it cost?

A: gull-wing door trend , — from lambo-door specialist LSD — available for the Ford Mustang

looks like the price is between $1500 to $2000 or more

Q: Ford Mustang?
Is a ford mustang a good car or junk that im goona keep putting money into? Would Volvo or mazda be a better choice ( i know its the same brand)

A: Get The Volvo.

Just saying Volvo, shows your a wise thinker.
Volvo is a better choice.
Volvo has better resale value also.
Is that your Volvo?
Why yes, … yes it is, Shall we ride in my Volvo?
Is that your Volvo? Or are you just glad to see me.
“The Count says “Velcome to my Volvo.
Ummm…say old boy, your girlfriend has a nice Volvo….
.hey….knock that off….you wanna smack?

On second thought get the Mustang.

Yours: grumpy

Q: Ford Mustang?
If anyone has a Ford Mustang V6 how much does it take to fill up your gas tank?

A: I have a 2006 Ford Mustang and I live in Michigan. The cost of gas is about 2.76 a gallon right now. It costs be about 40 dollars to fill her up! I love my car but I have to say, the gas mileage sucks!! I get about 230 miles to the tankful.

Q: Ford Mustang???!!!!?
what year did ford start putting air bags into their mustang?
also, can you put airbags into an older one like a 67?

A: air bags have been an option since 90 and became standard in 94
as for air bags in older mustangs it is possible but not practical 1978 and older mustangs do not have computers to regulate the device. the cost would be in excess of $ 4000

Q: Ford Mustang?
I want to get a ford mustang

I need pictures and prices on a 2000 ford mustange( hard top) black/grey or brpwn

                                 Help!!!!!!

Q: will a 94 Volkswagen jetta motor fit in my 1996 Volkswagen Jetta GL?
i have a 1996 volkswagen jetta gl and the motor is shot, I need to know if i buy this 1994 jetta will the motor fit? they are both 5 speed 2.0

A: 96 is 0b2, 94 is 0b1,you would need to swap engine harness and ECU,better of buying 96,97,98 engine.

Q: Is there a manual pump to prime a 1990 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel engine?
My uncle showed me a little hand pump thing on his 2007 Dodge Diesel Truck that would allow you to re-prime the engine if you got some air in the fuel pump, injector etc. I’m wondering if there is the same thing on a my 1990 VW Jetta and if so, where it is. Unfortunately I can’t even seem to find a proper Hayes type manual for my engine year.

A: to be honest i dont know if your car has a prime pump BUT if it doesnt and you run it empty or it gets air in it 1 loosen the nut on the furthest fuel injector and turn engine over this will pump out the air if no start 2 remove fuel filter and fill with fuel

Q: in dash aftermarket navigation system 2001 volkswagen jetta glx?
I want to put a double din in a volkswagen jetta glx, which is single din. i was wondering if anyone has done this and if so did it work? i was also wondering if i did install a nav with a cd slot if it work work even though my 6 disk cd changer is in the trunk of my car.

A: yes, it works. Need to make sure the unit has a metal mounting sleeve. the CD- changer probably will not work with it.

Q: How good is the Volkswagen Jetta model, years going from 1998 trough 2002?
Which of those years are the best ones in a Jetta model???

A: when you say 1998-2002, your talking about 2 different models. any of them are decent. it really depends on how it was taken care of, as it does with all cars. no matter what car your looking at, someone is going to tell you that they suck are bad, whatever, and then you will also have the people that are like they are amazing cars, get one if you can.

Q: Where is the Correct Vacuum hose for 1997 Volkswagen Jetta?
I want to Seafoam. I Dont know where the brake booster line is or the PVC line is. its is a 1997 Jetta GL. 2.0 Liter.

A: the booster line is the big thick line going to the booster, the pcv is the one on top of the valve cover, id use the booster line cause it has a few green covers that pop off , just dont loose em.

Q: I am looking for a diagram for 1996 volkswagen jetta to see where the water pump is?
I am looking to replace the water pump in my jetta but I need the diagram to know where it is located.

A: If you have the 2.0L ABA Engine is run off of the small V-Belt that is behind the larger Serpentine Belt. Its buried behind the timing Belt cover and underneath the Alternator Bracket. You can replace just the front half of it or you can replace the entire unit (correct way to do it) but the later option will run you ALOT more $$ then replacing just the front half.
If you have the VR6 AAA Engine Code then its run from the Serpentine Belt and has a small black pulley just to the right of the engine mount.
Both are easy to see with a good flashlight from the top of the engine bay.

Edit: The guy above me scares me… a VW Tech that doesnt know where the water pump is on a 96??

Q: How do i program a keyless remote for a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta TDI?
I don’t know how to program a new remote for my 2005 Jetta

A: As far as i know, this needs to be done at your local VW dealer or a shop with an adequate scan tool.

Q: How much would it cost for a Volkswagen Jetta 80,000 Mile Service?
I have an ‘02 VW Jetta that needs it’s 80,000 mile service and was wondering how much it would cost from a VW dealership and/or a different place ie. Midas, jiffy lube etc. and if it’s better to go to the dealership if it makes a difference?

A: It’s the same as an oil change & a tune up. Shop around. Dealers are often very expensive.

Q: How is the new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta?
I want to get the 2011 Jetta TDI. Does this car have good reviews?? What other cars does this one compete with? I like the fact that its German and comes with a lot of nice features standard with the TDI.

A: Yes VW dropped the price on the basic Jetta. However, you can still get the next two models with many features that some ppl want.
VW is just trying to please everyone; isnt that the American Way?
A friend at work just bought a 2011 Jetta TDI; he won’t stop talking abt how fantastic it is. He says he will not be driving it to work; something I dont understand but….
Consumer Reports says the Jetta’s “strong points include a will finished interior and a composed ride. Handling is agile and confident. The diesel version is more responsive than before. IIHS crash test results are impressive. Satisfaction Rating is “High”. ” They gave the Jetta a ‘Recommended Buy’ status.
Yes the Jetta is manufactured in Mexico [all except the Jetta wagon] . But my wife and I have a 2005 Jetta made in Mex. and it is a quality car; not a single issue and it has almost 100,000 miles on it.

Q: Where can I find a picture of a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta undercarriage?
It looks like the last place the Jetta was taken to for an oil change has ripped off the undercarriage shield on the front end of the car. The ends of the shield are still bolted to the car and appear to be ripped. I’m trying to find a picture of the front end section of a Jetta’s undercarriage to just have as a reference when we take it back to the store. Model year may not be that important. Any help at all is appreciated. Thanks
a link would be helpful. thanks guys

A: images.google.com

Q: Volkswagen Jetta Sedan or Mitsubishi Lancer?
Not to win in a race, but as my first new car for work and play. The Volkswagen would be either the SEL, SE, or Wolfsburg trim vs the ES-Sport with Nav for the Lancer. Any advice would be great. Its not necessarily a bad decision to have but I am struggling with it.

A: Jetta pwns the Lancer by far.

Unless you get the Lancer EVO, which is hard to find and uber expensive, the lancer is a petty excuse for a sports car. It lags in power, it does’t accelerate as well as it should, and the engine? really? i’ve driven a corolla with more oomph.

The Jetta is great because it has torque, you can supercharge the engine, and a great quality interior, plus you get all the perks of a german engineered car. The car is great as drifting, if your into that, and the stick shift is really really fun . It also comes with super cool safety options, and the sunroof is great.

Q: What is the difference between a Volkswagen Jetta and a Volkswagen Jetta GLS?
I’m car shopping and was curious as to the difference.

A: It depends upon the year; I realize that you must be talking about an older model, as the new models have “S”, “SE” etc designations for 2010…In general, (IF SOLD IN THE US) the base or GL models, had little or no power accessory equipment, i.e., power windows, cruise control, power seats, sunroof, had steel wheels (instead of alloys) etc. Some later models had power locks as standard on base or GL models (late 90’s models), but otherwise had almost no power equipment available, even as an option. If the model is old enough, even power steering, which has been standard for more than 12 years or so, was unavailable on base or GL models.

All of this changes if you’re talking about a model older than 1999; in some years, the GL model was a mid level model and the base model was just a Jetta. Air conditioning didn’t became standard on Jettas until 1995, prior to that it was optional equipment. Audio features in a base ranged from a AM radio, AM/FM radio, AM/FM cassette radio depending upon year. As late as 2003, the base Jetta still had only a AM/FM cassette unit, GLS models had a cassette/CD player.

Interior trim varied from year to year; in general base models didn’t have a centre console/arm rest/storage compartment. Engines choices were always the smallest engine available, while in some years, the GLS had as many as four engine choices: standard gas 4 cylinder, four cylinder diesel, four cylinder gas turbo, six cylinder VR6 motor… (at least in the US)

Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: Is a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta for $2,260 a good buy?
I’m 16 years old and I’m thinking about buying this 2002 Volkswagen Jetta for $2,260 as my first car. It’ll only be my car for a little while until I go off to college. But I just need a car to get to and from school, work, and stuff.

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: Is it possible to get a 2006-2009 Volkswagen Jetta for under 10k?
Has anyone been able to get a post-2006 Jetta for $10,000 or less?

A: nahh..to good to be true..
maybe a hyundai or kia..lol

Q: Volkswagen Jetta Transmisson cap leaking need to replace?
I have a 95 Jetta and the transmisson cap is pretty much gone it is leaking out from the top. I don’t know what the part is called a guy from autozone said something about it possibly being a bolt? Anyways if you could tell me what the heck it is actually called and where I can get it. I was told I might have to go to the dealership but if figured it was worth a shot. Thanks! 5spd trans.

A: Are you referring to the cap that covers the filler hole, like this: http://www.germanautoparts.com/Volkswagen/Jetta/Transmission/439/1

Let me know either way, I can get you the dealership part number for that cap or another part you need. I don’t think it’s going to be expensive, dealership is probably the best option if they are close to you.
