Q: How much would it cost to change the calibrator converter on a kia optima 2002?
My friends mom has a 2002 kia optima siting in her drive was because it can only go 25mph. I asked whats wrong with it and she said it was the calibrator converter.

I just got my licence and i am looking for a car
Does any one know how much it would cost to repair this?

A: What is a calibrator converter? I know of a catalytic converter, but that wouldn’t make a car go only 25mph…

There has got to be something bigger wrong with it. Ask her if you can take it to a mechanic and have them take a look and give you a quote.

Q: Kia optima reving up to almost 2,000 rpm at an idle?
My friend has an 2006 kia optima and as soon as you start it, it automatically goes to almost 2,000 rpms.. Any idea what is causing this?

There is not a check engine light and Auto zone ran dianositic on it and there was no codes that came up.

A: Does it stay there, or does it idle down after a second or two?

A constant high engine idle is a classic issue caused most commonly by a vacuum leak.

A frequently used method by professional mechanics is the use of starting fluid or brake wash. Simply spray around the engine with it running ( not on the exhaust ) and listen for a change in engine noise. Once You have found the area, turn the engine off and check for cracked vacuum hoses or leaky gaskets.

Q: where is the fuel filter located on the 2001 kia optima?
are there two filters?all the auto parts wholesalers list two filters,one in the tank.Any certified kia mechanics care to answer this question? thank you
Note:all outside filters need replacing about every 60,000 miles.But what about the one in the tank?Same mileage change?

A: No. the one in the tank is just a screen that cleans itself like a sump screen does. Replace it only when replacing the fuel pump and drain and clean the tank at the same time.

Q: 2001 Kia Optima gas gauge always shows on empty even when filled?
My Kia shows its empty even when its on full. I had my mechanic change the fuel level sender by replacing the pump and its still not working. Any advice? Thank you.

A: yeah like he said it is either your floater. orrrr it could just be a lot of dirt or corrosion on the electronics and its not reading how much gas is in the tank. i would suggest just hitting the trip odometer and finding out how many kms you get on a tank and hit the trip every time you fill up and every time you get to 500kms or whatever its time for a fill up. you know in the olden days cars didn’t even have gas gauges they had dip sticks in there gas tank. gas gauge is a luxery.

Q: Which car would you buy, 2002 Saturn L200 or 2004 Kia Optima?
The Saturn has 57k miles but 3 owners. The Kia Optima has 90k miles but had only 1 previous owner. Both going for around $4500. All other specs are about the same.

A: don’t know if this will help but my friend has a similiar saturn with about 70,000 on it and he is second owner..no problems and dealerships have all been good..don’t know bout the kia..i think i would give some weight to location of dealers

Q: 2003 kia optima gas filler auto release button?
where is the automatic release button for the gas filler door on a 2003 kia optima?i bought the car used.I cannot find where it is inside the car.The only button i see is the automatic trunk release button on the lower part if the inside drivers side door.I can’t put gas in my car.

A: the gas cap will relase by holding down the unlock button on the remote……or you can pop the trunk and look behind the liner on the side where the gas fill is and there should be a manual override lever to open your gas flap!!! good luck!!!!!

Q: What kind of seatbelt does a Kia Optima 2007 have?
I bought a crashed car and need to fix it, the airbag went off and I guess the seatbelt brakes with the impact. I need to know what model of seatbelt I need to get. Thanks!

A: Umm…a big black one, with a metal buckle…maybe a plastic red one…

Q: How do you change the ignition coil on a 2002 Kia Optima?
There are two coil packs. A diagnostics test revealed that the number 3 plug was bad. I had the plugs changed which helped but the point is mute if I don’t fix the problem at it’s source. I am planning to attempt changing the coil myself, as I have heard it is easy. Can anyone give me a detailed account of how to go about this?

A: 2 coil packs, that’s a V6, right? Did you change the wires too? I did so on an 05 V6 Optima and it was half easy (front 3) and half nightmare (rear 3). I can’t recall which one is #3, but the rear cylinders were a real b**** to change the plugs in, especially the right rear one. To get to them, you have to unbolt the intake, prop it up on blocks and it’s STILL hard to do without an assistant.

If the coil pack was bad, the problem would be on every cylinder that it fed, not just one of them. I learned that one when my 1987 Chevy Blazer (2.8L V6) conked out by tracing the ignition system forward piece by piece. Start out by having a friend turn the engine over (crank it) while you use a voltmeter on the coilpack’s output terminal. Put the positive lead on it, negative lead to ground (such as the hood latch). A good coil will output around 10-12 volts (my blazer did 10.73, compared to a new one doing 10.75). If it checks out, repeat the procedure at the distributor, or where the plug wires attach to for each cylinder. Since voltage is only applied in pulses for each cylinder (this is ignition timing), keep your eyes open, as it will be going on-off at 125 times per minute (idle speed divided by 6 cylinders)

If all the plug wire attachment points pass (10-12 volts), then it’s in your plug wires or a fouled plug. Repeat the distributor test at the end fo each plug wire.

Q: How much should it cost to have a tune up on a 2006 Kia Optima?
I have the LX V6 model and it has 29,324 miles on it.

A: it depends how much your local junkyard gives u for your kia and how much you have to pay for your new certified used car

A: there mitsubishi transmissions and not bad as long as the previous owner took care of it and you keep the maintenance up on everything then will be ok

Q: How can I disconnect my catalytic converter Kia Optima 2006?
I want to disconnect my catalytic converter so my exhaust is richer in Carbon Monoxide.

A: well you got two choices you can cut it off all together and weld a spacer between and have the chance of failing an inspection or you can cut it off and beat the catalyic out and weld it back on fooling the mechanic that does the inspection and it will have deeper sound but it can be heard by a good mechanic

Q: How do you remove the factory stereo system in a 2007 Kia Optima?
I cannot figure out how to remove the facia around the factory stereo without breaking something.

A: I’m a kia tech and the facia is held in place with clips. You need plastic trim tools to keep from nicking your dash. I will say that the facia is on there very tight and can be a pain to pop loose at times. It has very close clearence and is hard to get behind.Just take your time and pry out from the botton with a trim tool until it comes loose.

Q: What is up with the radio in my Kia Optima?
Everytime I hit a bump the radio stops playing for a minute or so. And sometimes when the radio is off and I hit a bump, it comes on. Or opposite. I am guessing there is a short? Also while I am asking this question, sometimes when I roll one window up in my car, another one goes down?? It is the weirdest thing i’ve ever seen. My other car is an 87, so the windows are not power windows, so I have no clue as to why it would do that either. Any ideas?

A: Carbon footprint according to the EPA in links below. One of the links is for the 2009 model because it provided more information, but you can look up the 2010 model which is about the same.
