Q: Can a classic Pontiac 96 Trans Am with automatic transmission be converted to a manual one? How much?
I’m intrested in a car for sale and its a GREAT DEAL just its automatic, and being a classic muscle car loving junkie I really wanted it in manual, for the whole experience… I hear it would be expensive but I know people just wanted to get a final opinion on the matter, thanks
Akira
A: Look for one with a stick shift. You really don’t want to hassle with converting it to a manual from an automatic, it isn’t worth it.
If you want a real classic TA look for one made prior to 1977, the pre-metric era production Firebirds and Trans Ams were the best of that generation as Pontiac wasn’t borrowing from Oldsmobile or Chevy to meet its engine quotas.
Q: my and my friends want to buy a 79 trans am. it need a motor and trans . what kind would u put in it?
i found this car for sale ok and it needs a rebuild so my buddies and i wanna buy it and rebuild it. we need to buy a new motor and idk what kind to get. i want something that will turn this trans am into a beast. and its going to be a stik shift too. if you kno what kinda engine i should put in please let me kno thanks
A: NOT a 350.
Q: is anyone selling a 1995 ( or newer) Pontiac Trans am in Michigan for at least $1000- 1200?
Hi i live in redford Michigan and im looking for a pontiac trans am 1995 or newer. prefer to have a car with a t-top roof and not to much work to do on the motor or trans.
so if you do have one for sale, or know some one who has one for sale, or know where i could get one in michigan, plz let me know or if you know where i could get on for $1000-1200
A: www.craigslist.com
Q: I responded to a auto for sale and man says he needs my addr. to open a trans. case w/yahoo finance?what’s up?
The car is at an extremely low price, and I am afraid I am being scammed. He hasn’t asked me to wire money or anything, so I hope I’m just being wary for nothing. Thanks for any input.
A: Sounds suspicious to me. If it sounds too good to be true–it probably is. Can you give a general delivery address from the post office?
Q: Is the 1979 Firebird a lemon?
I’m currently looking at a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Firebird for sale. I was wondering if the 405 horsepower engine was ruled a lemon. If anybody can help me, please do. I have searched through plenty of sites and can’t find any that denote whether this car is a lemon or not. Also, would $18,500 be a fair price for this vehicle that has all matching numbers and 75000 miles?
A: It’s a 31 year-old car… the term “lemon” doesn’t exist for it. As with any car its age, you’ll have issues pop up. It will all come down to how well it was maintained and stored. Cars are machines, they break.
That being said, reliability records were not kept on vehicles back then. Consumer Reports did not start this practice until the 80s.
Also, as mentioned, there was NO engine put in that car that produced 405 horses out of the factory. The three V8 choices (301, 400, and 403cu in., respectively) were no powerhouses stock. Neither of the two big blocks (400 and 403 cu in.) had any real guts for their size. They did have plenty of torque, though.
$18,500 MAY be a fair price if the thing is tip-top. Sounds a bit high, but if it is showroom condition, it could command that much. The second generation Firebirds/Camaros are starting to see their rise in prices (since everyone has bought up the late 60s-early 70s musclecars), and the ‘79 was at the very end of that. As the old adage goes, the seller will want the “most they can get”.
Q: would you buy a 2000 Lincoln navigator or a 1978 trans am?
if they were both for sale for $7000
A: If the trans am has never been in salt, I would buy that.
Q: Camaro or Firebird Trans AM?
ok im a huge car buff and i got lucky and found 2 of my all time favorite cars for sale both at roughly the same price, but i honestly am drawn between the two.
what would you take and why?
2001 firebird trans am (v8)
or
2001 camaro z28 (v8)
A: I would buy the one that I liked the best, because it’s my money and Im the one buying it.
Q: I have a 1980 Trans Am 4.9L, I want to know if I can put in a 350?
Hi Guys, I have a 1980 Trans Am with a 4.9L (301, non turbo) engine with original 3 speed transmission. I am not feeling this engine as it is not very powerful, I was looking at a 350 engine for sale of Kijiji and was wondering if this would fit in my car without having to switch out the transmission.. what kind of changes would I have to make on the car to use a 350? Any help is appreciated. Here is the link to the 350 engine I am interested in buying. Thanks guys.

A: 455 pontiac all the way, these are known to me as ‘amercing blocks’
and aren’t the same size as the gm motors(350) i had the turbo trans am, had it rebuilt to higher Performance, and it rocked. im sure the 455 would too
Q: Does anyone make an aftermarket Trans Am body? (77-78)?
My whole front end is good and I know how easily that can come off, but does anyone know where I could get an aftermarket rest of the body? Or even one for sale from someone?
A: YearOne inc. does and if you get on there email list you may get a 15% off notice, I do and that is a better offer then there 10% off for POCI members.
Q: Where can I find an owner’s manual for a 79 Trans Am?
I own a 1979 Trans Am, but it didn’t have the owner’s manual with it. I kinda want an original feel to the car, but I’ve not had any luck looking online for one. I’ve looked on restoration sites and ebay, but I can’t find one anywhere! Does anyone know somewhere I can find one for sale? Thanks.
@ G, KAUR
Don’t you think I’ve tried that?
@ Wene
I ordered a catalog about a week back, still waiting on it. I hope that they have it in there.
@ Jory
Went there last Monday, they had one for the first and third gen. Trans Ams but they didn’t have a second gen. book.
A: Classic Pontiac.com, Ayers.com, Yearone.com, Pontiachistoricalsociety.com has all kinds of stuff, but they are very proud of it. There are several Pontiac sites out there to choose from, also give Pete and Heather a call at fbodywarehouse.com, they can maybe find one for you. If you talk to Heather don’t be fooled, she knows as much, if not more than Pete about these cars, good people.
Q: Does anyone have a 1972 Formula Firebird parts car for sale?
I have a pretty nice car but am looking for alot of parts. I would be interested in any early ’70’s model Firebird or Trans Am.
A: No
Q: Hole in Manifold?
I wanna buy and 87 Pontiac Trans Am its for sale for $600 and they guys says it only has rust and a hole in the manifold, whats the repair cost usually for a hole inthe manifold and can the car still be driven like that
A: I had a hole in my manifold recently, on an old Jeep. It really can’t be repaired. You might go to a salvage yard and see if they have one. You might also try Hemmings Motor News. Yes, the car can be driven with the hole, but it’s LOUD.
Q: 1974 pontiac trans am front bumper?
Looking for a 1974/75 front bumper, i have looked for reprodcution ones but have not found 1 yet, only thing i have come close to yet is a fiberglass one and i have been told by many people not to even think about getting it, just curious if there is any company that dose make a rubber front bumper or if anyone has 1 for sale
i have tryed yearone and classicindustries both do not have the 1974-75 front bumper
yep, i have tryed ames, performance year, even frank didn’t have one. I have a feeling this may take awhile to come accrost one
A: Try “Ames performance” they are the Pontiac pros or even “performance years” for that bumper. COOL CAR
Q: Help with buying a Trans Am?
Ok so this is my first car my buddy has an older f body (a ‘95 camaro). I really like the look of the newer style 98-02, but the only ones for sale seem to be ’97s. Pretty much what I wanted to know is:
1. What exactly do you get with the ws6 package? Should I look for one with that trim?
2. Should i get an automatic because its my first car with a lot of power and i’ve only driven standard a few times?
3. How does the ls1 engine compare to the lt1 engine?
4. Should I look for a newer models or are the 97’s just as good?
A: 1. Only difference is the WS6 hoods, larger sway bars, upgraded struts, and a $200 WS6 badge on the rear bumper. The engine, trans, interior, rear end, etc are all the same whether it be a WS6, a base T/A, or a Formula
2. Go with what you want. I learned to drive stick on my 98 Trans Am; and i had never driven another stick car prior. All the people I know who have automatics are getting bored with them and are doing manual swaps.Driving stick on these cars is easier than on a honda or toyota since there is so much off-idle torque. Dont be swayed away because you dont have enough expierence; you’ll regret it later on.
3. The LS1 creates 40 more HP at the crank than the LT1. The LS1 is lighter than the LT1; LS1 = all aluminum, LT1 = iron block, aluminum heads. Parts and upgrades are cheaper and more readily available for the LS1 as well.
4. 93-97 models are all LT1 engines (a handful have the LT4). 98-02 models are all LS1 engines (a handful of 02’s had the LS6). A 98-02 has the faster engine, the updated body styling, better braking system, update interior, etc. An LS1 is A LOT easier to work on that the LT1.
Q: how much does my Pontiac ‘79 Trans AM go for?
rebuilt 6.6L 403. runs great. haha bout 325k miles on it. new tires and rims. new brakes and drums. new muffs and cat. interior is original as it first came out. powder blue color interior. solid black exterior color.
downside. the 325kmiles on it. was in a accident that damaged the passenger door. and paint is barely peeling in two parts only the tip of the noose and the back bumper. the passenger door was replaced with a 77 door. couldnt find a 79. i put in the motor window in it. and everything.
the car will probably get its fresh paint job and finish touch ups of the door before sale.
any interested buyers, or people who would know how much people would pay this for?

now tell me.
oh and just to let you know update on the engine. even though it has 325k on it. i rebuilt the engine at 275k. so it really only has 50k miles on it. and yes the whole car was almost rebuilt so no old parts.
A: Trick question ? 325K is 325,000 miles….
Looking at pictures … Need to see right side, interior and engine compartment. to give full value estimate.
Car still looks good, and just by what I see it looks to be a Rare S E car that should be Blue with Blue interior. If it was orginal White car its not rare.
I’m 100% sure Its Not an anniversary edition. No AV car had Blue interior.
Value 4500.00 to 5500.00 and it should sell pretty quick. If you advertise it every where and can hold out for while you can start at 6995.00 or best offer…
