Q: Is it harder to lift a Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ than a jeep cherokee xj?
I want to get a jeep and put at least a 4.5″ lift on it i have been searching craigslist for Jeep XJ Cherokees but there aren’t very many for sale around my area. but there are plenty of grand Cherokees. i was just wondering if i should keep searching for the XJ or get a Grand Cherokee ZJ. im looking for models that are between 1993-1998 thanks.

A: Much more complicated and expensive.

I wonder though, you are looking at two very different vehicles and your only question is which is easiest to lift?

If you actually plan to drive off-road then you should consider looking a bit further out for that XJ. It is much more suitable for that type of usage since the approach angles are better and there are more parts at less cost. For street styling and occasional off road use you might as well go with the ZJ for comfort and maybe a bit more style (I like square though LOL).

The amount of lift is not the factor that you should be considering though, you should consider what size tire you want to run and then lift accordingly.

Q: What year did 4×2 start in the Jeep Grand Cherokee series?
What year did the 4×2 addition in the Jeep Grand Cherokee start, so that you could switch between 4×4 and 4×2?

A: The very first Grand Cherokee was the 1993 model and it had three four wheel drive systems. Command-Trac, a part-time system that allowed 4WD for off road use only, Selec-Trac, which allowed 4WD on or off road (both allowing 2WD also) and Quadra-Trac, a strictly full-time system.

BTW – Just in case you did mean actual 2WD (which one answerer assumed) with no driven front axle it was the 1997 model (V-8 only) – even some of the Jeep sites get the year wrong so I took a moment to find one http://www.epinions.com/review/auto_Make-1997_Jeep_Grand_Cherokee/content_112931212932 LOL

Q: What other year jeeps Grand Cherokee engines are compatible with a 1995 jeep Grand Cherokee?
I smashed my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and I would like to get another one so that i can re-use the parts from my wrecked jeep. I’ve been looking for the same year, a 1995 Grand Cherokee, but I’m not having any luck. So I was just wondering if the 1993-1998 models were similar in the engine and parts to my 1995?
BTW the engine’s a straight 6, 4.0.

A: 1993-1995 are the same, 1996 -1998 had the OBD II Computer and sensors.

Q: How do you replace a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee cooling fan?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I believe the electric cooling fan is bad. How do you get it out without disassembling the entire front of the car?

A: the temp sensors do not control the fan. the fan is controlled by a pulse wifdth modulated realy under the right headlamp. the engine controller directly controls the relay looking at coolant temp, a/c input, a/c pressure, and trans temp. first check your fuse. it its good, unplug the fan connector. its about 1/2 way donw the shroud on the right side. 2 wires. jump the fan side of the connector, black to ground, green to voltage. the motor should run. if it doesn’t you probably need a relay. to get to teh relay you have to remove the front bumper cover and the relay is bolted to the sheet metal under the right headlamp. its mounted here to dissipate the high heat. if you need to remove the fan, remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the fan shroud to the radiator support. for the bottom left bolt get it from underneath with about 4 feet of extension and a 1/4 inch drive 10mm swivel. you can remove the top radiator hose for more clearace, but hte assembly will come out if you don’t. once the bolts are out and you have it unplugged, take it straight up and out. there are alot of things to work around, and the plastic is fragile. once the shroud is out, remove the 3 bolts that hold the fan to the shroud to remove the fan assembly. i would recommend seeing your dealer before you start any of this. many grand cherokees with both 4.0 and 4.7 engines had a recall come out last year for the fan motor.

Q: How can I increase my mpg on the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
Ok I have Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and in the last couple of months my mpgs have gone down a good bit like my jeep is eating gas. I had it tuned up about two years old and have brand new tires. What can I do?

A: buy low rolling resistance tires, try coasting more often(foot off the gas), if it’s a 4×4 switch it to 2wd mode if possible, accelerate slower, switch the engine, transmission & differential oils to synthetic oil, don’t drive around with a bunch of junk in your car, buy an aftermarket air intake & buy an aftermarket performance muffler(allows the engine to “breathe” easier),

Q: The power locks in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee have slowly gone downhill. Any suggestions?
I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The power door locks are slowly starting to die. It started with my rear locks only working once in awhile and now the driver side only locks manually. I’m looking for any suggestions before I take it to a mechanic. I’m in a new town and don’t know any reputable mechanics yet. Thanks!

A: Make sure you have a good ground connection between the engine and the chassis. The locks pull a lot of current, so if that ground is bad they won’t work too well. The best way to tell if it’s a voltage problem is to lock and unlock the doors while you’re driving at night and see if it makes the headlights dim or flicker.

Q: how much could i get for my 1998 jeep grand cherokee lerado from the insurance company?
Does anyone have any idea how much an insurance company would give for a 1998 jeep grand cherokee lerado? 225,000 miles, and a slightly bent frame?

A: http://www.nadaguides.com/

Q: How to change the radiator on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.0L engine, and i wanted to know if anybody can help me with a step by step instructions on how to replace the radiator?

A: Simply open up your Jeep User and Repair Manual and follow the steps as shown. If you do not have the manual you can always order if from the manufacturer. There are too many steps involved in changing the radiator.

Q: What other year Jeep Grand Cherokee seats will fit my 2002?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My drivers side seat broke so I need a new one. I was just wondering what other year Cherokee seats will fit mine. I found a few but none for a 2002.

A: 2000 to 2004 will be the years most like yours but you can go a little older, up to 1999. Just remember, all the seats are not the same, such as the electrical systems may have different switches like heat or no heat and so on and so forth.

What broke? The frame?
If so, a good reupholster shop can take it apart and weld the frame back as good as new for a minimal charge and get you going again.

Good Luck.

Q: What is causing rattle in rear end of ‘96 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
‘96 Jeep Grand Cherokee has developed a rattle in it’s rear end. It’s not the exhaust. Seems like I heard that these Cherokees have this problem. Anybody know what causes it, and how to fix it?
Thanks
any info on how to replace rear suspension, upper arm, ball joint on this Cherokee? Maybe online video, or step-by-step tutorial/instruction?

A: I’m not familiar with your suspension but it could be sway bar bushings. I would take it to a garage , have them lift it and take a gander.

Q: How much to replace a headlight on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I was in a small accident the other day. The right side headlight was damaged. No other damaged occurred. I’m wondering how much it should cost to replace a head light on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee? I want to know not just the cost of the part but also approx cost of labor. Thanks!

A: you can get the part cheaper at an auto salvage and take it to any repair shop and they will hook you up. The cost of the light and bulb depends on where you get it and the repair shop shouldnt cost more than 50 dollars to put it in for you.

Q: Why is the heating system on my Jeep Grand Cherokee putting out cold air from the right side vents?
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland and the heating system is putting out cold air from the right side vents. I have been told this repair will require the removal of the dash to access the unit that directs the air flow and will cost over $1,000.00. The vents on the drivers side work perfectly. Is there any way to handle this problem less expensively?

A: I have just recently discovered this problem on our 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. The passenger side is ice cold while the driver side blows out hot air when the heater is engaged. I’ve been afraid to take it to a dealership. I’m afraid of the cost of fixing it…..Any suggestions?????

Q: How to install a water pump on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6 4WD?
I would like to know how to install a water pump on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Is it difficult? I can do minor repairs myself (window regulators, o2 sensors, etc..) would this classify as a simple repair? The more details the better! Any websites with some pictures would be appreciated too. Thanks

A: if your engine run’s side to side it will be a lil bit harder cuz of clearence but if the serp belts at the front it should be alot easyer

Q: How much does a transmission cost for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I just bought a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for $1,600 and I was wondering if it’s worth the price I paid since I have to buy a new transmission for it.It’s automatic, 4×4, and 6 cylinders. Around how much would a transmission for it cost? And is it worth investing in it? Thanks!

A: I had a 98 ZJ that I sucked quicksand into, and burned up the tranny. I pulled it myself and had it rebuilt for $500. Depending on where you live it would probably be $1000 to $1500 to drop it off and pick it up with a new/rebuilt transmission installed.

A maintained inline 6 4.0 liter Jeep engine will run 250,000 miles.

A: 20.5 gallons or 78 liters for both 4.0 6cyl or 4.7 v-8.
